According to Pope Francis, it is essential to develop a „culture of encounter“ in a plural world. The Catholic religious education in Poland should also contribute to this. It’s aim is that students grow in their own faith. This is closely linked to the goal that students are committed to live according to their convictions in everyday life, including relationships with others. In this article, the two questions are investigated: What are the requirements of Roman Catholic religious education in Poland with regard to the „art of encounter“ with Judaism and Islam? And: What is the attitude towards Christianity, Judaism and Islam among young people aged 15 to 16? This can be answered with the help of a hermeneutic analysis of the religious education curriculum and a questionnaire about the attitudes of students concerning their beliefs and concerning other religions. In this way, the syllabus-based requirements for religious education are compiled with the self-assessment of pupils with regard to their attitude (their personal convictions) to the three Abrahamic religions. This perspective can open up new perspectives for religious education in Poland.
