Abstract

In the school year 2020/21, the subject of ethics was introduced on a compulsory and in ascending order starting with the first classes of the secondary level. It thus became a competing alternative subject for denominational religious education. Nevertheless, the discussions as to whether the separation into ethics and religious education is appropriate and whether teachers of religious education are also suitable as teachers for ethics lessons have nevertheless not completely died down. What are the commonalities in teaching the subjects and what are the subject-specific differences? Teachers who teach both subjects give initial answers to this in an online survey.
