Abstract

While analyzing the representation of Judaism and Islam in textbooks has a certain tradition, the present study aims at investigating how minority religions are portrayed in Austria’s new Ethics books, using Buddhism as an example. The focal points are the significance of religions in general for conveying ethic content as well as the contexts and attributes associated with Buddhism in particular. The goals are neither judging the overall quality of the books nor revealing alleged factual mistakes, but rather discussing different approaches and interpretations of the curriculum.
