Abstract

Religion and religions are a core topic of ethics education in Austria; with religious studies being the first reference discipline. Here, the presentation of the history of religion leads to a dilemma: Religions have traditional historical narratives, but findings from the history of religion sometimes deviate widely from
these traditions. A secularly oriented ethics class is thus faced with the problem of which sources to refer to when discussing religious history. The present analysis of the new Austrian ethics textbooks shows that the awareness of this problem in still insufficient.
