Abstract

Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) implies lifelong learning and should provide "all learners with the knowledge and skills necessary to promote sustainable development" (Vereinte Nationen 2015: 19). This means that ESD is also relevant for educational measurements in the field of integration, such as orientation and values courses for refugees. Based on the distinction between politische Bildung and politische Erziehung, which are both referred to as political education in the Anglo-Saxon world, the contribution examines whether - and, if so, how - Austrian and German value and orientation course books address environmental and sustainability issues.
