In the discourse of religious education, differentiation competence (based on Dressler) is well established as a competence requirement for (inter)religious education. It is interesting to note that differentiation competence is less often worked through concretely with another subject and its subject-specific learning expectations on a concrete object. Only then do the barriers and complexities of an inter-subject didactically informed differential competence become visible. Using the example between the didactics of religion and mathematics, the subject of chance is used to show what differentiation competence really means and how complex the ideal learning process is in contrast to empirical practice.
