Abstract

In the first results of the Kassel interview study Religious Education at the Pulse of the Times (RaP) “War and Peace” is shown as a neglected religious education topic in times of peace and as a hot but even more difficult topic in times of war. This article provides initial insights into religious education class from the perspective of the teachers interviewed and makes a suggestion as to how the hot topic can find space in it in a competency-oriented and empowering manner.

Helena Fernys-Adamietz, University of Kassel

Helena Fernys-Adamietz is a primary school teacher specialising in Catholic religion, German and English and has been a teaching assistant in the field of religious education at the Institute of Catholic Theology at the University of Kassel since 2021. Her work focuses on working in the religious education research group and supporting student teachers during their practical phases.

Annegret Reese-Schnitker, University of Kassel

Prof.in Dr Annegret Reese-Schnitker has been Professor of Religious Education

and its didactics at the Institute for Catholic Theology at the University of Kassel. Her

research focuses on teaching research, gender research, sexualised violence as an

sexualised violence as a topic in religious education, interdisciplinary and interreligious teacher training.
