Since 2015/2016 the Teachers´ Training College Graz (Pädagogische Hochschule Graz) has offered a new training concept (‚PädagogInnenbildung NEU‘) in primary education, with the choice of focusing on religious education. Developed by the south-east regional cooperation network, this new educational approach represents a paradigm shift in the training of prospective teachers. This article introduces the structure of the degree which concentrates on religious education, outlines the advanced model of vocational practice in classrooms, and within this context analyses the scope for teaching biblical studies. The evaluation is based upon initial experiences with the new curriculum and the resulting development of biblical learning processes.
