Once again, there is a discussion about the political orientation of religious education. But the debate is fragmented, because the different voices often stay singular. One objective of this article is to map the discussion and to offer a common frame for the different contributions. For this purpose, I will plead for the term ‚new political religious education‘. It describes and names shared assumptions in the debate. I will argue against two potential objections and for the term because it points at inconsistent assumptions and blind spots.
