Virtue ethics and enjoys little attention in contemporary religious education in German-speaking countries. This is despite its potentials for the Christian-Islamic dialogue: Ancient virtue ethics play an important role in both the Christian and Islamic traditions; they are therefore a possible common basis for ethical education, which can be derived from the respective religious traditions themselves and is also open to secular ethics. With this contribution we take up current pedagogical debates on a contemporary virtue-ethical education and would like to examine whether virtue ethics and virtue-ethical learning can make a new and genuine contribution to the Christian-Islamic dialogue and to inter-religious learning.
